Daniel's story

Daniel is 17 years old. He has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, spinal rods and is fed through a tube. He is totally dependent on carers and is wheelchair bound. He is a very happy boy and although he can’t speak he can communicate with his eyes, and he has a wicked sense of humour. He has a very happy approach to life.
Daniel’s mum explains what Bluebell Wood means to her family.
“As a family, we need help caring for Daniel and we belong to the Bluebell Wood family. We have contact, respite stays at home from a carer, and also use the facilities at the hospice. These stays are much needed for all of us. We have lots of fun, and it is nice to be able to relax knowing someone else is caring for Daniel and the pressure is off for a while. We have beautiful meals provided and we don’t even have to wash up! Knowing that Bluebell Wood is there for us makes our life bearable and easier to care for Daniel. It is a great help and relief to us that when the inevitable happens to Daniel, we will be amongst friends who have cared for him”
