At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, we care for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. We are currently supporting around 250 families, both in our hospice and in family homes.
Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family; including end of life treatment and care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits and much, much more.
It costs more than £4m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. We receive around 10% of our funding from government sources.
At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice there is a rapidly developing Family Support & Wellbeing Service. The role of Family Support Coordinator is a new post intended to reach out to existing, new and non-accessing families, with the aim of maximising the opportunities available to them. Our aim is to promote a holistic offer of activity and wellbeing support that complements the excellent standards of clinical care already in place.
You will offer support and advocacy to children, young people and families during some of the most challenging times they will face. You will work closely with families from the point of referral through to post bereavement support, empowering them to seek appropriate intervention, access services and reach decisions based on their individual requirements.
You will combine the development and coordination of services with an operational approach, ensuring that you are instrumental in assessing need, offering support and liaising with colleagues and other agencies appropriately. You will work closely with Activity Coordinators, Sibling Team, Therapists, Volunteers and the wider Care Team to support the development of the overall service offer.
You will have an excellent understanding of the issues facing families where there is a child or young person with a life-shortening condition and experience of directly supporting families, both on a one to one basis and through facilitating group work. This role needs someone who is able to work flexibly (evenings and weekends) and who is willing to travel across the catchment area to provide support.
