Counselling and bereavement support

Counselling

The thought of your child dying before you is unimaginable. Our free counselling sessions can give you the chance to talk to someone in a comfortable environment about your thoughts and feelings.

We offer counselling to all our families, including parents, siblings, grandparents, and the child or young adult that uses Bluebell Wood. This can be while your child is being supported, or after a bereavement.

Our team of qualified Counsellors are experienced in supporting people who have lost loved ones and those learning to adapt to a diagnosis, and are there to listen to you and support your emotional needs.

Sessions can take place at Bluebell Wood or at your home, and we can also support your children at their school. We have dedicated, private rooms to make sure that there is a quiet place where you can talk, and appointments can be booked to suit you and your needs. Sessions are open ended, so you can see us for as long as you need.

Bereavement support

Our Dragonfly garden

Our dragonfly rememberance garden was designed by Alan Titchmarsh as a quiet and tranquil place where you can sit, think, and remember your child.

Every bereaved Bluebell Wood family is given a beautifully engraved pebble with their child’s name on, and some of our families choose to leave their pebble in a special spot in the dry riverbed that runs through our garden.

The dragonfly garden is in the grounds of the hospice but is away from the main gardens, so is a peaceful place for you and your family to visit without being disturbed.

Spiritual care

Spiritual care at Bluebell Wood is all about supporting you and your family in any way you need, whatever your religious beliefs.

We have a quiet room at the hospice which you can use whenever you need, whether you want to sit and reflect, light a candle, pray, meditate, or listen to music.

Our Care Team can also support you in other ways, such as by trying to contact a local religious leader to arrange a christening or blessing service. Whatever your beliefs we will do whatever we can to make sure your religious and cultural needs are met.
