Who is the Master Cutler?

The Master Cutler is the head of the Company of Cutlers, and acts as an ambassador of industry in the Sheffield city region. The Master Cutler for 2017 – 2018 is Ken Cooke, the 379th Master and the owner of CTW Hardfacing Ltd, a successful machinery repair company.Ken Cooke Master Cutler

What is the Master Cutler’s Challenge?

Over the past ten years the superheroes of Sheffield have raised more than £1.3 million for great local causes through the annual Master Cutler’s Challenge. Every year companies, community groups and schools in the city region are invited to compete with each other to turn a seed fund of £50 (optional) into as much money as possible for a local charity.

Why should I get involved?

This year the Master Cutler’s Challenge will be raising money for Bluebell Wood to help us support local children with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions, and create memories that our families can treasure. Signing up to the challenge is also a great way to motivate your team and encourage them to work together, as well as offering you some fantastic PR opportunities (in 2017 groups involved in the Master Cutler were featured in the media over 500 times, reaching over 10 million potential new customers).

What is a seed fund and how does it work?

Once you have signed up to the Master Cutler’s Challenge your team of heroes will receive a £50 seed fund which you can use to help you get started with your fundraising. You can ask for the money as soon as you’re registered, or collect it at our official launch event in early 2018. Not everyone uses the £50 but it’s a great way for smaller organisations to kickstart their efforts, such as to pay for entry into a sponsored event.

How long have I got to fundraise?

Your team of caped crusaders can start fundraising as soon as you’re ready. Our official launch event is in early 2018, but you can fundraise whenever it suits you. Once you’ve started you’ll have until the end of August to turn your £50 into as much money as possible, and we’ll announce the winning teams at our closing ceremony in September.

Where can I get tips to help me fundraise?
