Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has appointed Jon Lister as its Chair of Trustees.
Jon has been a board member of South Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice since 2014, providing financial, governance and commercial expertise as Treasurer.
Jon specialises in charity audits and corporate governance and has wide experience as a Trustee on several charity boards. A graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1998.
Jon said: “As a father of two, I realise how lucky we are to have Bluebell Wood on our doorstep, providing such a valuable service to families experiencing the toughest of times. It’s a privilege to take the role of Chair and I will strive to help Bluebell Wood develop our services to achieve the best possible outcomes for the 250 families we support each year.
“As Chair I hope to provide everyone, from volunteers and staff to trustees and business partners, with whatever they need to shine in their roles. I believe that innovation, creativity and playfulness is as important to our thinking as ensuring strong safeguards and compliance is. We will be looking at innovative ways to generate new income streams, remain vigilant on costs and continue to grow sound management and governance models.
“Like my fellow board members. I’ve been fortunate to experience a wide range of fields and see what works and what doesn’t. This helps us to cherry pick from our learning to help Bluebell Wood. To anyone thinking of becoming a Trustee, I’d say ‘just do it’. The small amount of time involved is more than repaid by working for a great cause with fantastic people and knowing that you really can make a difference.”
