The group of 18 workers from the building society’s call centre volunteered in the hospice’s Sheffield shop on King Street, as well as organising a bucket collection on the streets of the city centre.
Bluebell Wood provides care and support for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions; and their families. This includes end of life care, short breaks, music therapy, counselling, sibling support, home visits and more.
Sandra Hind, Corporate Volunteer Co-ordinator at Bluebell Wood, said: “Supporting Bluebell Wood is not just about raising money; it can also be about offering the gift of time.
“The team from Nationwide were very busy when they volunteered in our shop, sorting donations, steaming clothes and arranging items ready for pricing. They also braved the elements and took to the streets with collection buckets, raising an amazing £443 as well as vital awareness for our hospice.
“Volunteering time is just as valuable to us as donations. Without support from our volunteers we just wouldn’t be able to help as many families as we do, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to Nationwide for all their hard work.”
Carmen Lee, Senior Consultant at Nationwide, added: “Bluebell Wood is an incredible charity, and our volunteers were overwhelmed by the stories about their children and families.
“We loved helping in the Sheffield shop as well as collecting donations – as soon as we mentioned Bluebell Wood, passers-by were eager to donate. We left feeling a big sense of achievement knowing how much we had helped, and we can’t wait to work with the hospice again next year.”
