The all-time leading point-scorer for Doncaster Knights rugby club and Louise, who is mum to one of the Doncaster Under-11s rugby team, both let go of their locks after a Knights’ game against Hartpury RFC.
The ‘Brave the Shave’ event, which also included a raffle and a four-mile fun run/walk from Castle Park, was partly inspired by Dougie’s experience of his younger sister being taken to hospital with a suspected brain tumour. Fortunately his sister was later diagnosed with a less serious condition known as a cavernoma, but Dougie has been determined to do something for other children and young adults dealing with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions.
Sally Baker, Community Fundraising Manager, Bluebell Wood, said: “We can’t thank Dougie and Louise enough. This is a fantastic achievement and every penny raised will help us do even more for Bluebell Wood families, from sibling support groups and music therapy to counselling and end of life treatment and care.”
