Barnsley man Tim Steele is inviting Zumba enthusiasts to dance their hearts out at a special fundraiser in memory of his nephew Roman.
Tim is organising a Zumbathon at the Sports Village at Honeywell in Barnsley on Saturday 20 May to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which cared for the whole family after Roman passed away at just ten months old.
Roman’s mum and Tim’s sister Amanda said: “We came to Bluebell Wood the day after Roman passed away. We stayed in the Forget Me Not end of life suite until Roman’s funeral and our family could visit whenever they wanted. The care Bluebell Wood have given our family is amazing and I have no idea where me and my kids would be today without all the support we’ve had.”
Roman’s older siblings have been supported by Bluebell Wood and are members of its sibling support group, where they can have fun and meet others. Amanda said:
“Whenever I come here, I see the hospice and I feel like I’ve come home; it fills me with calm feelings. Bluebell Wood has helped each of us in different ways; I receive fantastic emotional support and my children get to enjoy their childhood. They have enjoyed day trips out and I go to the parent group. For them, it’s a safe and happy place. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Bluebell Wood. They gave me the time with my boy that you wouldn’t get anywhere else.”
Anna Gott, Community Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood: “The Zumbathon is a great idea and we really do appreciate the work that Tim and Amanda have put in to organise it. Here’s hoping lots of people come along, have loads of fun and help Bluebell Wood to support families facing the hardest times imaginable.”
Places in the Zumbathon cost £8 or people can fundraise for Bluebell Wood, with all proceeds going to the children’s hospice. For more information, contact Tim Steele on 07428 530783.
