It’s time to get those sausages sizzling and raise valuable funds for Bluebell Wood with a Bangers for Bluebell barbecue.

Whether you fancy hosting family and friends, or organising a work do with a difference, Bluebell Wood is looking for people to host a Bangers for Bluebell barbecue and raise funds for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions.

With recipes ranging from chicken tikka skewers to magenta mocktails, and games like Pop Pong, our Bangers for Bluebell pack includes recipe ideas, games and tips to make any barbecue a roaring success.

Gail Parkin, Community Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “Summer is on the way and it’s the perfect time to celebrate in the great outdoors and make a difference to the families that Bluebell Wood supports. We can help people get organised with recipes, games, collection boxes and lots of tips to make their barbecue a success.”

Bluebell Wood has been inspired to launch Bangers for Bluebell by Steve and Jane Knight, who host a barbecue every year in memory of their daughter Emma, who was cared for at home by Bluebell Wood before she passed away at the age of 13.

After Emma passed away, she was the first child to stay in Bluebell Wood’s Forget Me Not end of life suite. Jane and Steve have raised tens of thousands in her memory and Jane is a Care Team Support Worker at the hospice.

Steve said: “Emma was a chatty, bubbly girl who loved dancing, Sheffield Wednesday, and going to school. She was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in 2004, and over the next four years she lost her sight and her ability to walk. Despite all this, she never lost her smile.

“Watching Emma deteriorate was the worst thing in our lives, but it would have been a lot worse without Bluebell Wood. When you’ve gone through what our family has, you look at life differently, and it’s nice to know we’re making a difference.”

Bluebell Wood is asking anyone holding a Bangers for Bluebell barbecue to share their photos on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #BangersForBluebell.

If people email their pictures to marketing@bluebellwood.org, one lucky person will win an exclusive, one-off original print of the digital Bangers for Bluebell artwork, designed by local artist Kate Morgan.
