On Sunday 9th April, an inspirational dad from Thurcroft will be joining thousands of runners in the Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in memory of his daughter.
After Rosie passed away, the family were able to stay in the hospice’s end-of-life suite, where they could spend time together as a family and say their goodbyes.
Rosie’s mum, Joanne, said: “Bluebell Wood is such a lovely and special place. Being here gave us chance to have time with Rosie we thought we would never have.”
Jonathan added: “It makes us so proud to be able to fundraise for Bluebell Wood in Rosie’s memory. We get so much support from Bluebell Wood, so completing my first ever half marathon for the hospice is my way of giving something back.”
Bluebell Wood provides care and support for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions; and their families. This includes end of life c
are, short breaks, music therapy, counselling, sibling support, home visits and more.
As an official charity partner, Bluebell Wood is giving you the chance to enter the race for just £30 per person. The hospice is also giving away a number of free places for those who can raise over £150 to support local families like Rosie’s.
Gail Parkin, Community Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood, said: “The children and families we support face challenges every day, so we’re offering you the chance to challenge yourself – or your friends and family – and raise as much money as you can for Bluebell Wood.
“With your help, we can be there for families like Rosie’s when they need us most, by creating special memories they can treasure; whether they have days, weeks, months or years together.”
