Keen cyclist completes a gruelling 500 mile ride to help support local children’s hospice

Passionate Bluebell Wood supporter John cycled a phenomenal 516 mile cycle that only two other people have managed to complete before now, to raise vital funds for the North Anston charity.

John, 56, of Thurcroft, completed the North Coast 500 Cycle between 8th & 9th August none stop, all to try and raise as many funds possible for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and help support local families like the Tennick’s.

Rosie and familyJoanne and Jonathan Tennick, from Thurcroft, lost their beautiful baby girl Rosie in 2015 and stayed in one of Bluebell Wood’s end of life suites for 10 days, giving the family time to say their goodbyes. Joanne said, “Staying there truly helped our family and made the beginning of our grieving journey much gentler, giving us precious time with Rosie as a family and creating priceless memories.

“Support from other people such as John means that other families who also go through the same heartbreak will get the same incredible support. The memories we have from Bluebell Wood are really cherished.”

It costs £4m a year to keep its doors open and the hospice cares for over 200 children both in the hospice and in the community.

John said he was really proud to have taken on this challenge in order to support Bluebell Wood. He said: “I chose Bluebell Wood as it is an excellent local charity providing valuable support for families and friends during times of need. Without their excellent work I feel families may not be able to cope as well”.

Anna Gott, Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We really are very grateful of the amazing support we get from our local community and people like John, who take on extreme challenges all to raise much needed funds and awareness for the hospice.

“Our hospice is genuinely filled with love and laughter; it is a place where we help to create special memories for our families”.
