Does your business like the idea of friendly competition and fantastic teambuilding to help families facing the toughest of times?
The Master Cutler’s Challenge is inviting companies and community groups to take up the fundraising gauntlet for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in 2017/18.
The new Master Cutler, Ken Cooke, has chosen South Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice as the charity for the 2017/2018 Master Cutler’s Challenge, an annual initiative that’s raised more than £1.3 million for great causes over the last ten years.
The Cutler’s Company has played a huge and influential role in the South Yorkshire steel industry since 1624. Originally formed to ensure the standard of cutlery was high enough to put the Sheffield name on it, it continues to promote the values, quality and skills of manufacturing across the wider city region.
Ken is the 379th Master Cutler and owner of CTW Hardfacing Ltd in Sheffield. He is asking businesses to turn an initial sum of £50 into as much as possible by coming up with all kinds of fundraising ideas. The money raised will help Bluebell Wood to support children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions, both at its North Anston hospice and in family homes across South Yorkshire and beyond.
Ken said: “I’m delighted to have nominated Bluebell Wood for the Master Cutler’s Challenge this year. This is a vital charity for families dealing with some of the most difficult times imaginable. It’s here for people in this region 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but relies on fundraising to keep its doors open. I’m hoping that the enthusiasm, commitment and ingenuity of everyone taking part in the Master Cutler’s Challenge will help to make a real difference over the next 12 months.”
Rachael Dawes, Corporate Fundraising Manager, Bluebell Wood, said: “On behalf of Bluebell Wood and all our families, I’d like to say thank you to Ken and The Cutler’s Company for making us the Challenge’s charity this year. It is a real honour to be chosen.
“Bluebell Wood will be here to support everyone taking part and give them lots of tips and ideas. When it comes to fundraising, anything goes. Whether businesses choose an adventure challenge, wine tasting evening or a night at the races, the possibilities are endless. We know this is going to be a year of great fun for all involved.”
The Challenge will be officially launched at the Cutler’s Hall in early 2018, but businesses can get a head start and start fundraising straight away. There is a £50 seed fund to help groups get started. Registered companies can ask for this when they register with Bluebell Wood or collect it at the launch evening.
