Pups taking part in this year’s Bark Around the Park will be joined by one of South Yorkshire’s police dogs, as they raise vital funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
The annual event, which takes place on Sunday 13th September, sees dogs and their owners complete a three mile sponsored walk around the hospice grounds.
South Yorkshire Police has chosen Bluebell Wood as their charity of the year and Dog Handler, John Hare, will be attending Bark Around the Park with three-year-old German Shepherd, Georgie.
John, who has served with South Yorkshire Police for more than 20 years, said: “We can’t think of a better way of raising funds for such a wonderful organisation that is Bluebell Wood and to be able to involve our dogs is fantastic.
“Georgie has been operational for two years and this is her third Bark Around the Park event. As a police dog handler, Georgie is the first girl I’ve worked with and she is quite a little star too, having recently appeared on BBC Crimewatch Roadshow.”
Jo Berry, Events Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, added: “We’re so grateful for the support of South Yorkshire Police and also our organisers of Bark Around the Park – our support group Blu Crew. Events like this are crucial for helping us to raise more than £3 million, which it costs to keep the hospice running each year.”
Registration for this year’s Bark Around the Park opens at 12 noon on the day, with the last entries at 2pm. Entry costs £5.
