The Engineering and Operations Director at T&RS Engineering is limbering up to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, to raise funds for our charity and his local scout group.

Richard is hoping to reach the highest point on the African continent on 18 March after a six-day trek through rainforest, heather & moorland, alpine desert and glacier in Tanzania.

Richard, whose biggest trekking challenge to date was the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with Bluebell Wood in 2017, has been training for a year by walking in the Peak District.

Richard said: “I arranged the trip 14 months ago, just after turning 40. Kilimanjaro is a personal challenge that I’ve wanted to do for a long time.  I spoke to others who have done it and it sounded amazing. I decided to book it with enough time to try to get fit first.

“I’m hoping for a good trip, but I know it will be hard as I’ve heard that only 60% of people who attempt the trek make it to the top. I’ve set a target of £1,000 but the more we can raise the better.

“T&RS Engineering has supported Bluebell Wood for the last three years, and we’ve made a donation every Christmas. As all of us have either young children or grandchildren, we all feel close to this charity.”

Russ Hall, Corporate Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “We’re very impressed at Richard’s ambitious plan and wish him every bit of luck for his trip. We’re sure he will have the adventure of a lifetime. The T&RS Engineering team have been fantastic supporters of Bluebell Wood and we really appreciate the efforts that people like Richard are willing to go to. Our motto at Bluebell Wood is living with love and laughter and every pound raised will help our families do just that.”
