Stagecoach Yorkshire have raised an incredible £937 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice after pushing a specially designed bed through the streets of Rotherham as part of their latest fundraising drive.
Staff from the company’s Rawmarsh depot pushed the revamped Bluebell Wood bed through Wombwell, Wath, Mexborough and then on to Parkgate Retail Park on Saturday 9 July, along the Stagecoach 22x and 220 bus routes.
The Bed Push proved to be a tough challenge for the intrepid fundraisers, who battled with terrible weather and steering problems to get their brightly coloured bed to the finish line.
Stagecoach Yorkshire staff have already raised more than £900 for Bluebell Wood – which cares for children and young people with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions – through raffles, competitions and car washes.
Bernard Boyle, bus driver and organiser of the bed push, said: “We’ve really taken Bluebell Wood to our hearts, especially since we made a visit there and saw the amazing work that the staff do and all the fun that the children and their families have. We really enjoyed doing the bed push for Bluebell Wood, and we are determined to raise even more funds for this fantastic organisation.”
Rachael Dawes, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We were delighted to support Stagecoach Yorkshire with their bed push, which saw the bed adorned with special Bluebell Wood bunting and flags. The event was a challenging one, but we really admire the team for staying determined and completing the fundraiser against the odds.”
