Volunteer Pat Watson reopens Bluebell Wood’s Sheffield shop after makeover

A long-standing Volunteer at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s shop in Sheffield has re-opened the shop after its extensive refit. Great-grandmother of five, Pat Watson, cut the ribbon to open the doors in front of volunteers and staff from Bluebell Wood as well as customers keen to experience the new-look shop.

The shop, on King Street, stocks good quality second-hand items, including toys and clothes as well as a brand new range of goods.

Pat Watson said: “I volunteer at Bluebell Wood because it gives me huge satisfaction. I would recommend to anyone to volunteer at Bluebell Wood in any capacity. They do fabulous work for children, young people and their families.”

Shop Manager, Tracey Woolsey, said: “It’s been really exciting planning the makeover. It’s now much lighter, easier for customers to get around and browse, and we’re able to display our stock much more imaginatively. We’ve even put a second till in the lower part of the shop to make it more accessible. We have many lovely customers who come into the shop on a regular basis, it’s almost like a social club!

“All funds raised through this and our nine other shops go towards the vital work we do at the hospice and in the community supporting children and their families.

“As a charity supporting local people, we love being at the heart of the community and are grateful for the support for the shop from our volunteers as well as our customers. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us to make the shop a success, serving customers, operating the till and helping to sort and display the goods.” The shop is open from 9.00am to 4.00pm every Monday to Saturday.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support to children and young adults with a shortened life expectancy. Its specialist care team looks after children with a vast range of medical needs, while also offering support to the whole family through respite care, day care provision, community support, crisis intervention and end of life treatment and care.
