White family ready for Colour Dash this April

A Maltby family will be dashing through a rainbow of colours at Rother Valley Country Park this April.

The White family will do the Bluebell Wood Colour Dash this April

Among the thousands walking, wheeling, jogging or running at the fifth annual Colour Dash for Bluebell Wood on Saturday 28 April will be Jacob White, his mum Kerry, dad Jason, brother Leo and sister Mia. The White family has been supported by Bluebell Wood since 2012.

Six year old Jacob has heart problems, chronic lung disease and Noonans syndrome. Kerry said:

“After Jake was born at 28 weeks, weighing only two pounds, the doctors told us then that he wouldn’t survive long, and he wasn’t breathing on his own. He was really poorly, and wouldn’t take any of his milk. He was on full life support for five months, but on New Year’s Day 2012, he pulled out his breathing tube, and incredibly, started breathing on his own. He was still really poorly, and had to have two more heart operations before he was eight months old.

“When I found out that I was 16 weeks pregnant with my third baby, Mia, we started going to Bluebell Wood. I needed to go for regular scans and ante-natal appointments, and Bluebell Wood’s help meant that I could drop Jake off there first, knowing he was in safe hands. He loves it and is so happy there, and we love being there together as a family. His older brother Leo goes to the sibling group too.

“We absolutely love Colour Dash. All of us did it last year and we couldn’t wait to get our tickets this year. It’s really good fun and the atmosphere is fantastic.  It’s a family event. We take Jake round in a pushchair and walk the whole way, but it’s so much fun getting messy and covered in the colour. I can’t think of anything better than doing something fun and raising money for an amazing charity at the same time”.

Rachel Hodges, Senior Events Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “By signing up for the Bluebell Wood Colour Dash, people can help families like Jacob’s. Our colourful course is completely family and wheelchair friendly, whether you want to walk, jog, run or wheel around the course. This event has been a sell out for the last four years so anyone who’d like to take part should sign up as soon as possible.”

Colour Dash tickets are £19 for adults, £10 for children aged 5-15, £2.50 for under-4s and £55 for a family of four. The car parking fee is included within ticket purchases, provided that proof of entry is given on arrival at the car park barrier.
