For so many people who visit Bluebell Wood, Kathy is the very first person they talk to. She has been ‘front of house’ for seven years and is our Administrator/Receptionist.
Her role’s remit has changed over time and she is always working on tasks that people, perhaps, don’t realise she carries out. Kathy explains: “In this role you need to have an ear to the ground and be aware of everything that is going on in the organisation. From knowing what meetings will be taking place, to coordinating deliveries, ordering stationery and processing the mail, there’s always plenty to be doing!
“I am often the first person people see or hear when contacting our organisation. I really enjoy meeting and greeting all of our visitors, assisting with any requests they may have. Often it is taking donations or putting them in touch with the right person to help.”
A major part of Kathy’s day involves processing receipts for inclusion on the fundraising database, sending out thank-you letters and certificates to our supporters, inputting standing orders, taking room bookings and administering the lottery.
Kathy adds: “One area of my job that I really like is organising and working with my team of enthusiastic volunteers; we are really lucky here at Bluebell Wood to have such a fantastic volunteer support. Those that volunteer on reception are a massive part of the Bluebell Wood family, they are familiar and welcoming faces when people arrive at reception and I couldn’t do without them.”
In this role you need great people skills, patience and the ability to multi-task; a job that is so much more than just picking up the phones!
