A corporate bank manager from Penistone will be pulling on a Bluebell Wood jersey when he takes his place in the Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride on Sunday 6 May.

Frazer Oldfield, who manages a portfolio of corporate clients for HSBC in South Yorkshire, will be cycling the 129-kilometre route to raise money for the children’s hospice that supports families facing the toughest of times.

The Ride gives amateur cyclists the chance to experience the Yorkshire part of the Tour de France, riding many of the same roads as the professionals before they do, including the pro finish line, with support from the waiting crowds.

Frazer said: “I’ve enjoyed mountain biking since I was a teenager and started road cycling two years ago. I did the Tour de Yorkshire ride last year and really enjoyed it. I’m training with a regular commute cycle to work and longer rides at the weekend, and probably cycling between 60 and 70 miles a week. I’m hoping to finish the ride in about 5.5 to 6 hours.

“I decided to do it for Bluebell Wood because it’s the charity chosen by my team at work and we’ve been to the hospice and realise the valuable work they do with children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. I’m hoping to do my best on the Ride and do my bit for this amazing charity.”

Gail Parkin, Community Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “We really appreciate Frazer’s support and wish him all the best on what will be a fantastic day. Every pound he raises will make a difference to Bluebell Wood, helping our families to make special memories, whether they have days, months or years left together.”
