If you go down to the Alhambra this Halloween you’re sure of a spooky surprise.

Monsters will be on the march at the Barnsley shopping centre on Wednesday 31 October, but fear not, it’s all in support of families facing tough times across our region.

A Monster March will run at the centre from 12pm to 3pm, with proceeds going to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, the Alhambra’s charity of the year.

Children will be asked to help Winnie the Witch on a spooky trail for the magic spell, where they will find treats along the way. Although the fearsome witch will be as scary as Nanny McPhee and evil to boot, once children work out the spell out, there is every chance she will turn out to be good in the end.

Children are invited to turn up in their scariest Halloween fancy dress, with every family who signs up to be entered into a free draw to win a £50 shopping voucher. The Monster March will cost £3 per child, and families are advised to book online in advance, at www.alhambracentre.co.uk/events/monster-march. Marches will depart at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Anna Gott, Community Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “We hope everyone has a fantastically scary time at the Monster March. Every penny raised will help children and young adults in Barnsley and beyond to make special memories with their families. By taking part in Halloween at the Alhambra, shoppers will help Bluebell Wood to continue to support families, however they need us to, at the toughest time of their lives.”
