There was a sea of colour at Rother Valley Country Park when thousands of people took part in Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s first ever Bubble Rush 5K this past weekend.

Running, walking or wheeling their way around the lake at Rother Valley Country Park, over a thousand participants took on the foamy 5K across three waves. People started off in a frothy sea of foam, before running through four brightly-hued bubble stations which completely covered them in blue, pink, yellow, and green coloured foam.

Among those taking part in the fundraiser for South Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice were 15-year-old Ella Frith and her family, who have been supported by the charity since 2018. Gleadless-born Ella took on the course in her wheelchair alongside her mum Joanne Wilson and her aunt Tracey Goodison and her cousins Abi and Amelia 14 and 12, who live in Hathersage.

Ella’s mum Joanne said: “The atmosphere at Bubble Rush really was fantastic! It’s the first time we’ve done anything like this, and it was great that we could all enjoy this together with Ella in her chair – we all got absolutely covered in foam!

“We surround Ella with positivity and so do Bluebell Wood, so it meant so much to us that we could do this and have the opportunity to say thank you for everything the hospice has done for us.”

Helen Mower, Head of Fundraising at Bluebell Wood, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our ‘incredi-bubble’ event, and all our wonderful volunteers and supporters who helped make the day possible.

“Our motto at Bluebell Wood is ‘living with love and laughter’ and this weekend was all about that. Every pound that our supporters have raised while they’ve been making memories in the foam will help families at the hospice to make special memories too.”
