About us:

At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice we care for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. Every year, we support around 300 families both in our hospice and in family homes.

Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family including end of life treatment and care, respite short breaks, counselling, sibling support groups, music therapy, home visits and much much more.  It costs more than £5m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. We receive around 15% of our funding from government sources.

The role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a values-based strategic leader with a passion to deliver excellent clinical standards of care to the children, young people and families we support on their palliative journey.

As Head of Care you will provide leadership, vision and direction to our clinical services whilst ensuring that we meet our obligations in relation to compliance and regulation. Our ideal candidate will have experience of multi-disciplinary team leadership and will be adept at positive engagement, a confident communicator and advocate for children and families on a palliative journey.

The requirements:

The post holder, has responsibility for providing managerial and professional leadership for the day to day running of the care services offered by the hospice, which includes respite care, emergency admission, end of life care, short breaks, community provision and senior nurse on call, will be Caldicott Guardian and Infection Control Lead for the hospice and will deputise for the Strategic Lead for Care.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide joint clinical and operational leadership within the hospice, in partnership with the Senior Care Leadership Team.
  • Manage the provision of care and provide operational leadership to the in house and community care team.
  • Work with statutory agencies to develop and enhance children’s palliative care, specialist short break services and in support of transition services throughout the region.
  • Instil a culture of openness and transparency, robust review, continuous improvement, learning and development throughout the care team.
  • Lead in hospice CQC (Care Quality Commission) inspection preparedness
