Dave Townrow, from Sheffield, starting volunteering for Bluebell Wood in 2013, after his wife passed away. Dave said: “After going through such a life-changing event, I was looking for a way to fill my time, and a mutual friend introduced me to Bluebell Wood. On my first day of volunteering, I was bucket collecting at a Supercars event in Sheffield. It was such a great day, and I made friends with people straight away.”

There’s no such thing as an average day for Dave, who has turned his hand to everything from bucketing collecting to helping out in our Fundraising Team: “When I’m volunteering in Fundraising, every day is different. I could be sorting out stock, putting packs together for events, or ringing our supporters to check up on their fundraising.

“When I first started volunteering at Bluebell Wood, people used to say it must be really sad, but it’s not like that at all. Bluebell Wood is all about ‘living with love and laughter’ – every day they’re helping make memories for children who are really poorly. It’s such a fantastic cause; even if you can only volunteer for half a day, it really is worth it.”
