It was the vital work of hospices that first attracted Collette to stepping into the Volunteer Services Manager (maternity cover) role at Bluebell Wood.

She’d previously worked at Breast Cancer Now and saw just how much support hospices provide to people at the hardest time in their lives.

“When I saw this job opportunity it felt like exactly the right role for me,” said Collette.

“My first job in a charity was at the age of 19 at a local mental health charity offering administrative support to a volunteer led peer-advocacy service.

“I was absolutely in awe of these amazing volunteers using their own experience of mental health to help others, they inspired me to pursue a career in the charity sector."

“Volunteers are crucial to organisations like Bluebell Wood, we literally couldn’t do what we do without them. They bring a wealth of different skills, experience and ideas and help us to work towards our vision of reaching every family that needs our help.”

When she’s not working hard at Bluebell Wood, Collette lives in Sheffield with her husband and two cats – Louis and Maya. You’ll find her playing board games, crafting, meeting up with friends and enjoying Lake District views at her parents bed and breakfast.”
