Wales High School raises £70,000 for Bluebell Wood

A Rotherham secondary school has donated more than £70,000 to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. 

From sponsored walks to Christmas cards and non-uniform days to book sales, bighearted pupils from Wales High School have undertaken countless unique and creative fundraising initiatives over the years for the hospice.  

Former headteacher, John Day, was an enthusiastic supporter of Bluebell Wood who first encouraged students to start fundraising.  

Thanks to his legacy and after some students spent time at Bluebell Wood, the school made the hospice their chosen charity. 

Fundraising events for the hospice take place throughout the year, including the John Day Memorial Fund and Raise and Give (RAG) Challenges managed by sixth form students.  

Wales High School Headteacher, Pepe Di’lasio, said: “Bluebell Wood is a special charity at the heart of the school’s community. 

“We have been lucky enough to visit Bluebell Wood and the love and warmth is evident as soon as you step on their grounds. 

“It is a wonderful place, and we are glad that we’ve been able to raise such a fantastic amount. 

“I am proud of all the students, staff and families who have supported this special charity over many years.”  

Regional Fundraiser for Bluebell Wood, Hannah Goulding, said: “We’d like to thank everyone at Wales High School for their support of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, especially all the hardworking students. 

“To see Wales High School giving back to their community is truly heart-warming, and their generous donation means so much to everyone at Bluebell Wood.”
