Bluebell Wood’s tranquil Dragonfly Garden, where families go to remember loved ones, is now in tip-top shape thanks to a hardworking team of volunteers from VolkerRail.

The hospice’s beautiful memory garden, where families place pebbles in the names of children they’ve lost, was in need of some TLC to keep it as welcoming as possible for visitors.

Thankfully, the volunteers from long-standing Bluebell Wood supporter VolkerRail – a Doncaster-based railway infrastructure contractor - were more than happy to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty.

The volunteers quickly got busy weeding and maintaining the path that winds through the garden, as well  as oiling the various benches and features – and all in the space of a day!

It’s not the first time VolkerRail has lent a hand in the charity’s Dragonfly Garden, with a team laying  pipework and installing a tap in 2019, to make sure the garden’s centrepiece fountain never runs dry.

As well as lending people power to Bluebell Wood, VolkerRail has also raised over £50,000 for the charity, through a variety of fundraising initiatives and challenges, in a partnership that began back in 2012.

Rebecca Lund, Volunteering Coordinator at Bluebell Wood, said: “Our beautiful Dragonfly Garden means a great deal to many families so we really can’t thank the VolkerRail team enough for helping to keep it in pristine condition.

“Volunteer teams from VolkerRail have taken on all manner of projects for us over the years and we’re always blown away by the results."

“A huge thank you to the team for all their hard work and to everyone at the community-spirited firm who have supported us over the years.”

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is always on the lookout for corporate volunteers to lend a hand with all manner of tasks, big and small.

It’s a fantastic way to make a real difference, while boosting staff engagement and team building at the same time.
