A Chesterfield schoolgirl has persuaded her friends to get into the bake-off spirit for Bluebell Wood.

Alexa Harrison (9) got together with 13 of her friends from Hasland Junior School to make cakes   and buns to sell at school, raising £66.50.

Alexa was inspired to fundraise for Bluebell Wood through knowing Isla Salt. Isla is the sister of  11-year-old Adam, who first came with his family to Bluebell Wood when he was six, and Isla was a baby.  Adam has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease and uncontrolled epilepsy. He visits Bluebell Wood for respite, often with his parents Kerry and Karl, as well as Isla.

Alexa said: "I think Bluebell Wood is an amazing place. I really enjoyed fundraising with my friends and I’m looking forward to doing more, to help the staff, children and families at Bluebell Wood."

Lucy Rathbone, Community Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: “Alexa and her friends should be very proud of what they have raised. They took it upon themselves to bake all the cakes and buns and take them into school to sell. They have not only raised money for Bluebell Wood but also helped make more people aware of the support we give to children and young adults.”
