Volunteer Supervisor: Facilities Assistant

Location: Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

Days/Times: Flexible weekday between the hours of 9am to 5pm – volunteering on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis to suit your availability.

About this role:

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to assist our Facilities and Estates Team. We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated person with knowledge of health and safety principles and experience of caretaking or practical & hands on maintenance and with clean UK driving license. This role will contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Key tasks:

  • Assist the team with site maintenance (upon completion of required training), to include reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, porterage, and project work.
  • Assist the team with grounds maintenance & repairs, to include litter picking, path clearing (snow / leaves etc) garden building & furniture repairs, maintenance of garden tools & equipment.

What we are looking for:

Volunteers who:

  • Have a few hours to spare each week to help
  • Are physically fit and healthy to fulfil the manual activities involved
  • Have knowledge of health & safety legislation
  • Are maintenance or building trade trained or holds relevant qualification(s) in any building trade discipline or equivalent experience / knowledge
  • Have experience of PPM’s, statutory maintenance, or reactive repairs
  • Are able to work independently and be a team player
  • Are friendly, respectful and have good communication skills
  • Understand the sensitive and confidential work which is carried out at the hospice

  • Bluebell Wood branded fleece (provided)
  • Gloves (provided) (summer and winter for volunteering outside)
  • Hat (summer and winter for volunteering outside)
  • External waterproof coat
  • Full length trousers (for protection to legs)
  • Safety boots or safety trainers (to be provided if unable to obtain these yourself) 
  • Safety boots/trainers to comply with British Standards (Code: EN ISO 20345:2011)

General

Bluebell Wood volunteers are asked to:

  • Be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Attend induction and any routine training.
  • To complete e-learning training around areas relevant to your role.
  • Abide by Bluebell Wood policies and guidance, including our Health & Safety policy.
  • Co-operate and liaise with colleagues.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Be polite and respectful to everyone you meet whilst volunteering in this role.
  • Act as an Ambassador for the Bluebell Wood Charity.
