News Running Through Every Season Fundraisers make an enormous difference to the children and families supported by Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. Every challenge taken on and every pound raised helps us continue providing vital care and support for families facing some of the toughest times imaginable. Whether supporters choose to run, cycle, bake or organise their own events, their dedication helps ensure that local children with life-limiting conditions can create precious memories with their loved ones. Making every mile matter We're incredibly excited to shine a spotlight on young supporter Rachel, 16, and her mum, Cathy, who took on an incredible challenge in 2025, committing to run a half marathon every month throughout the year in support of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. Covering 13.1 miles 12 times over the course of a year is no small feat, particularly for Rachel, who told us, "it was definitely a real challenge as it's the longest distance I've ever run," said Rachel. "Especially because we did it in all weathers, from spring to winter." Training for the tough times To prepare for the challenge, Rachel and her mum relied on the support and expertise of their local running club, which played a key role in helping them reach the finish line month after month. "We made use of our running club to train and get tips about long-distance running," Rachel explained. "Our running club also encouraged us throughout the challenge and this was a massive help and definitely kept us motivated." Along the way, Rachel learned some valuable lessons that she hopes will inspire others thinking about taking on a fundraising challenge of their own. "Don't expect every run to be better than the last," she said. "It's not all about the speed or the time, but rather enjoying and embracing what your body can do." Side by side at every step Rachel told us one of the most important factors in her success was having someone by her side throughout the journey. "I would strongly recommend running with someone else. It's so helpful to have someone there to encourage you and be with you through the challenge. I know for sure I couldn't have done it without my mum running with me." Looking back on the year, one particular moment stood out above all others. "A memory I'll never forget would have to be running our final half marathon in Chatsworth on New Year's Eve," Rachel said. "We ran in the early morning and it was so special to watch the sun rise together as we completed the run." As well as sharing her running advice, Rachel also had some tips for anyone looking to raise money for Bluebell Wood. "Ask your family to share your challenge with their work or social settings," she said. "If you're on social media, definitely make use of that. Finally, both for yourself and your motivation, keep in mind why you do it and how important it is to support Bluebell Wood." We'd like to say a huge thank you to Rachel and her mum for their dedication, determination and incredible support. Taking on 12 half marathons in a single year is an amazing achievement, and we're thrilled to announce they raised £1,001.09! Feeling inspired by Rachel and Cathy's fundraising?
