A group of enthusiastic Bluebell Wood supporters have conquered a 192-mile trek and raised more than £27,000 for the hospice.

Conner Wesley and his trusty crew from Rotherham hiked from the Lake District to Whitby in North Yorkshire over eight days.

After setting a completion target of nine days, the group have pushed themselves to the limit for Bluebell Wood.

Most coast-to-coast hikers take between 11 and 13 days to finish the challenge.

As if that wasn’t enough of an achievement, Conner and his friends - Rob Pryke, Craig Edwards, Corey Mangham, Chris Daley, Danny Bearman, and Caleb Wedge – have tripled their initial fundraising target of £10,000.

So far, they’ve raised more than £27,000 and counting!

Conner said: “We all knew it was going to be a tough challenge, but I think we underestimated just how hard it would be.

“On the last day we walked 42 and a half miles. It took a lot of will power to carry on. There were a lot of blisters and some Trench Foot!

“I think it was the thought of finishing that powered us on and having members of Bluebell Wood meet us at the end was amazing.

“Nearly everyone in the group has children, and nothing means more to us than our own children. If we ever needed help, then what better charity to support.

“We wanted to help a local charity and know a few people in the village who have been supported by Bluebell Wood.

“I was confident of reaching the original fundraising target, but I never thought we’d almost treble it. We never expected that, and it is amazing how people have come together.

“Thank you to Bluebell Wood for letting me do this for your amazing charity. I needed this as much as you guys need people like us. It’s been a privilege.

"This is something I’m very proud of and will always remember."

Bluebell Wood Regional Fundraiser, Eleanor Hughes, has been supporting the group since the very beginning of their challenge.

She said: “It’s been incredibly exciting to watch the boys progress on their coast-to-coast challenge for Bluebell Wood.

“They’ve gone above and beyond for the hospice, not only in completing the hike so fast, but in raising such a fantastic amount of money.

“Support like this is vital in ensuring that we can continue to be there for the families who need us.

“We’re so thankful to the group and hope they get chance to put their feet up!”
