Community-spirited colleagues at Sheffield Metro Bank are embarking on an epic ‘transatlantic’ mission to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The team at the Fargate branch are attempting to cover the 3,279 mile distance from Sheffield to Sheffield in Massachusetts in the USA by the end of May. The gruelling challenge will see the team walk, run, cycle and swim their way to America - but without having to leave the comfort of the Steel City!

Chris Gore, Manager of the Sheffield branch of Metro Bank, said: “Here at Metro Bank we’re dedicated to helping the local community and raising money for fantastic local causes so it’s a pleasure to be  supporting Bluebell Wood with our Sheffield to Sheffield challenge.

“Our dedicated team have already clocked up 1641 miles and we’re motivated every step of the way by  the knowledge that our efforts will help local children and families who are facing the toughest of times.

“Bluebell Wood is an amazing local charity and we’re very much looking forward to raising as much money as possible to support its life-changing work.”

To boost their fundraising, the team are also holding a variety of other initiatives in branch such as their own ‘Bake off’, and customers are able to sponsor their Sheffield to Sheffield challenge when visiting the Fargate branch or on their Gofundme page here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/METROBANKWALKINGCHALLENGE

Shannon Gossage, Regional Fundraiser for Sheffield at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the team at Metro Bank for taking on this ambitious challenge for Bluebell Wood.

“Each and every penny they raise will help us to make precious memories with local families who sadly don’t know how long they’ll have with one another.

“It’s been an incredibly tough year from a fundraising perspective so the support of fantastic local businesses like Metro Bank is more important then ever.”
