A water feature in Bluebell Wood’s tranquil Dragonfly Garden where families go to remember their loved ones is flowing full-time thanks to an incredible effort from a team of volunteers.

The huge project involved a dedicated team of volunteers from Doncaster’s VolkerRail laying pipework along a 140 metre trench through the hospice grounds from the mains, ensuring the fountain never again runs dry.

This means the fountain, which is a central part of the Dragonfly Garden, will continue to be a soothing presence in the tranquil space on a permanent basis.

A new tap has also been installed by the volunteers, making it significantly easier to maintain the surrounding gardens.

Stuart Webster-Spriggs, HSQES Director at Doncaster-based rail infrastructure company VolkerRail, said: “VolkerRail were once again delighted to be able to hold its HSQES senior team event volunteering for Bluebell Wood.

“The team rose to the challenge of installing a water supply line to the memorial fountain and all got a great sense of achievement in completing the task. We look forward to future volunteering events in support of this exceptional organisation.”

The project, which involved the laying of pipes and a great deal of lifting and lugging, was finished in a day – thanks in no small part to the groundwork put in by Cinderella Limited.

The facilities support company prepared the ground for the VolkerRail team, provided the tools and lent their significant expertise by supervising the job throughout.

Gemma Robinson, Corporate Volunteer Coordinator at Bluebell Wood, said: “VolkerRail have supported us here at Bluebell Wood for over seven years.

“Not only have they raised over £30,000 during this time, but every year we are blown away by the huge projects their teams of volunteers take on. This year was certainly no exception.

“Thanks to the incredible work of the volunteer team our beautiful Dragonfly Garden now has a ready supply for the water feature.

“A huge thank you to the VolkerRail team for doing such an amazing job and to Cinderella Services for providing the tools and expertise.”
